Bouncing Ball!

Chapter 2 – BOUNCING BALL MAZE!!

Right after the usual bouncing ball exercise, things got a bit more interesting, we have to make a maze! With a ball! Never done one before so it was pretty exciting… although I didn’t really get the results I was hoping for, I guess that’s normal in this inicial phase.

So I began by quickly drawing a maze on paper and I liked the final result so I didn’t sketch anymore, just jumped to MAYA and started building it.

Numbers indicate the order of action

Building the maze: check! Now it’s time to start animating!

The principles that were going to be applied in this exercise were: timing and spacing and secondary action (because some platforms move when the ball touches them).

Honestly I thought it would be easier, I followed the 12 frame rule for the ball to hit the floor but eventually i got caught up with making the platforms move along with the ball that I got off track. I only made a playblast when I finished every movement: worst mistake ever… Cried a bit, tried to change things but it was getting worst so I just decided to make it as good as possible ignoring the fact that the ball looked like it was jumping on the moon or something.

Anyway, I was happy with it’s design although it was a bit simple.

In the motion trail we can se that the curves do not make the desired angle right at the beggining of the maze.
The curves shoud be smoother and its angles not so “harsh”
Despite it looking weird I liked the way the platforms move as the ball hits them.

Finally, this is the final result
